IVA Testing For Imported Vehicles

Most vehicles under 10 years old imported from outside the EU are required to undergo an Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) Test before they can be registered for use on UK roads. The IVA test ensures that the vehicle meets UK safety, environmental, and construction standards.

There are many DVSA-approved IVA testing stations (formerly VOSA) located across the country. At Vehicle Registration Specialists, we take care of everything on your behalf—from booking the IVA test to carrying out any necessary modifications your vehicle may need in order to pass.

Common Modifications to Meet IVA Standards:

  • Rear Fog Lamp: Must be fitted if not already present—required on all vehicles for UK road use.

  • Speedometer Conversion: The speedometer must display speed in MPH (Imperial), or both MPH and KPH.

  • Headlights Adjustment or Replacement: Headlamps must be suitable for driving on the left-hand side of the road and comply with UK beam patterns.

  • Emissions & Noise Compliance: We ensure the vehicle meets relevant emissions standards and passes the noise level requirements.

We handle all aspects of preparation and ensure the vehicle is compliant before testing—streamlining the process and reducing the chance of delays or re-tests.

A vintage car is inside a garage or workshop with the hood open, revealing the engine. The car has a shiny metallic exterior, likely copper or bronze color, and is parked near a vehicle lift.
